The STAT3 gene encodes the transcription factor protein, STAT3. STAT3 plays a crucial role in immunologic pathways by signaling cytokines which induce T helper cells (TH17 lineage). TH17 cells upregulate chemokine receptors that release cytokines with antifungal and antimicrobial properties.
Gene target information for STAT3 - signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (human). Find diseases associated with this biological target and compounds tested against it in bioassay experiments. STAT5 represses BCL6 expression below basal levels and decreases the association of RNA polymerase II at the gene. These results indicate that STAT5B and STAT5A act partly as non-redundant transcription factors and that STAT5B is more critical for Treg maintenance and function in humans. The STAT3 gene encodes signal transducer and activator of transcription 3, also known as acute-phase response factor (APRF).

These genes provide instructions for making proteins that are part of essential chemical signaling pathways within cells. When STAT proteins are activated by certain chemical signals, they move into the nucleus and attach (bind) to specific areas of DNA. The STAT3 gene encodes a signaling protein regulating transcription of a wide range of genes, including those signaling the maturation of T cells and B cells. Constitutive STAT3 activation, as a result of upregulation or mutation, is seen in a variety of solid and hematopoietic cancers. GeneSTAT engineers, manufactures, and delivers everything you need for molecular diagnostics, but what really sets us apart is your ability to rely on our expertise. We do more than develop assays. We provide every tool and clarify every step you need to take to make the best use of them.
The phosphorylated STATs dimerize and associate with ISGF3G/IRF-9 to form a complex termed ISGF3 transcription factor, that enters the nucleus (PubMed:28753426). ISGF3 binds to the IFN stimulated response element (ISRE) to activate the transcription of IFN-stimulated genes (ISG), which drive the cell in an antiviral state.
It is a member of the STAT protein family. STAT genes are often the transcriptional targets of active STAT dimers, with the net result being an increase in the pool of unphosphorylated STAT proteins.

Mutations in this gene can cause immunodeficiency . STAT1 phosphorylation, dimerization, and translocation to the nucleus will induce target gene transcription and expression. Following gene activation, STAT1 dimers dephosporylate, detach from the nucleus, and are translocated back to the cytoplasm.152–154 STAT1 mutations had been known to underlie mycobacterial and viral diseases. Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is a transcription factor which in humans is encoded by the STAT3 gene. It is a member of the STAT protein family.

The STAT3 gene is part of a family known as the STAT genes. These genes provide instructions for making proteins that are part of essential chemical signaling pathways within cells. When STAT proteins are turned on (activated) by certain chemical signals, they move into the cell's nucleus and attach (bind) to particular areas of DNA. The STAT1 gene provides instructions for making a protein that is involved in multiple immune system functions, including the body's defense against a fungus called Candida. When the immune system recognizes Candida, it generates cells called Th17 cells.
These proteins are involved in IFN-alpha specific signaling.
